Annual Report 2017 - page 38

With a view to promoting online retailing and boosting consumer
confidence in Hong Kong’s online shops, we successfully launched
the "Quality E-Shop Recognition Scheme" earlier this year. This is
the first scheme of its kind in Hong Kong in terms of the breadth
and depth of its reach, as measured by a comprehensive set of
assessments endorsed by both local and international e-commerce
leaders.
Through this Scheme, we aim to set new industry standards
and best practices for online retailing in Hong Kong. Despite its
newness, we are pleased to see over 40 e-shops participating
already from diverse retail categories and different scales of
operation. Almost all of them have obtained quality recognition
and are eligible to compete for the “Top 10 Quality E-Shop
Award” at year end to enjoy a series of publicity programmes and
exposure.
Building an e-commerce ecosystem requires talent. In March
this year, we were happy to see a first-ever Specification of
Competency Standards (SCS) for retail e-business introduced by
the Qualifications Framework (QF) Secretariat with the support of
the Association. Covering major functional areas of the e-tailing
business, the document represents a key reference for our industry
in training e-commerce practitioners.
Promoting e-commerce in the retail industry is no easy task and
it will be a long-term endeavour. To this end, the Association’s
Ex-Co set up an E-Commerce Sub-Committee this July to assist
members and retailers to grasp the e-commerce and O2O
opportunities available to them, and to lead industry advancement.
We will be seeing more such initiatives in the near future.
Strengthening Our Voice and Getting Heard
Hong Kong has been experiencing a lot of disharmony on both
the societal and political fronts in recent years, a situation that is
harmful to the city’s economic development and competitiveness.
With a new Government in place, the Association continues
to represent the best interests of retailers and promote the
professional and vibrant image of our industry.
To better reflect retailers’ concerns to the Government and the
Legislative Council, we have been working closely with Mr. Peter
Shiu, the new LegCo representative for the Wholesale and Retail
sector, on a wide range of legislative and regulation issues.
For example, together with Mr. Shiu, we have urged the Food
and Health Bureau to consult the retail trade and other major
stakeholders before launching the Hong Kong Code of Marketing
for Formula Milk and Related Products, and Food Products for
Infants and Young Children.
