Retailers - Fall 2016 - page 4

by e-commerce experts. Retail executives and their colleagues responsible for
e-commerce were able to get an overview of the burgeoning online shopping market
in Mainland China, and to rethink their omni-channel retailing strategies in the long
run. More highlights on this training programme are available in this issue of our
newsletter.
Another exciting initiative is the "Quality e-Shop Recognition Scheme", which will
be launched in 2017. During the year, we have been working closely with key
stakeholders and major industry players to seek their advice on the framework,
assessment criteria, and implementation plan of this scheme. We are hosting a
seminar on 13 December to announce the details. At the same time, we are very
pleased to have experienced retailers share their best practices in operating a quality
e-shop at the seminar. We believe this Recognition Scheme will serve as a platform
to build up the e-commerce ecosystem in Hong Kong.
The Policy Address and Budget for 2017-18 will be released by the Government
in January and February respectively. The Association has already put forward
our recommendations to the Government. We highlighted the importance for
Hong Kong retailers to embrace and catch up with the technology revolution
without further delay. Meanwhile, we have made practical proposals on how the
Government can take the lead to uplift the retail industry through adopting new
technology. Looking forward, we will closely follow up with the Government on our
ideas and recommendations.
On the other hand, 2017 marks the 20
th
anniversary of the establishment of the Hong
Kong SAR. A wide range of celebratory activities will be organized in Hong Kong.
The Association is now exploring opportunities to collaborate with the Government
and major e-commerce platforms to see if our members could ride on this joyous
occasion and generate more business. Please stay-tuned for the exciting updates.
Stepping into the last quarter of 2016, both retailers and the Association are having
the most eventful period of the year. On behalf of the Association, I would like to
express again my gratitude to Miss Cathy Chu, Commissioner for Tourism, for sharing
her insights on the Hong Kong tourism industry at our 33
rd
AGM Luncheon. I would
also like to thank all members and fellow retailers for their tremendous support. The
grandest event of the Association, Annual Dinner and Retail Awards Presentation
Ceremony will be held on 6 December. This year, we are going to have Financial
Secretary Mr. John Tsang, GBM, JP, to celebrate with us as our Guest of Honour. I
look forward to seeing you all on this delightful occasion.
As Christmas and New Year are around the corner, may I wish retailers good trading
and prosperity during this festive season.
