Over the years since 1983 the HKRMA has represented
the interests of more than half the Hong Kong retail
workforce. From humble beginnings the Association has
grown to the leading organisation in the retail industry
and is widely recognised for its work in improving the
status of Hong Kong retailers. Its dedicated support
has encompassed training, education and social
concerns for the benefit of its members and with
its continuing contact with the government it keeps
members updated on all matters relevant to the trade –
so important in these difficult times.
The HKRMA has admirably fulfilled its responsibilities to
retailers and the FHKI sends heartiest congratulations
on the 32

Anniversary and wishes even more success
in the future.

Hong Kong is long known as a shopping pilgrimage,
thanks to its compact geography, advanced
infrastructure, and the incredible variety of goods.
However, signs of slowdown in retail market have
appeared. Numerous internal and external factors
are detracting from Hong Kong’s appeal as a
shopping destination for tourists. On the other hand,
globalisation and advances in technology are reshaping
the marketplace, which would add to the challenges
already facing the industry. Amid tough competition,
retailers have to innovate and further enhance the
quality of their services.
For the past 32 years, HKIRM has made continuous
efforts to promote the development and raise the
professionalism of the retail industry. Its contributions
to Hong Kong are both unique and outstanding.
I believe that HKRMA will continue to flourish and make
even more substantial contributions to the industry and
Hong Kong for decades to come.
