Retail industry in Hong Kong has over the years stood up to a number of challenges, such
as Asian financial crisis in 1997, the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) epidemic
in 2003, and the global financial crisis in 2008. Backed by the unswerving Spirit of Hong
Kong, we have walked out of the troubles unscathed and even have grown stronger. Dr.
Stella Kwan said that there are many similarities between her career development and
that of Ngong Ping 360, which are marked by meeting challenges with determination,
stepping forward with courage, and taking opportunities arising from favourable
circumstances to go forward. "Born to a grassroots family, I grew up in a public housing
estate, and started my working career after completing Form Seven. At the same time,
I pursed further studies with a strong belief that 'Where there's a will, there's a way'. My
achievements today can be attributed to such qualities as making every endeavour and
cherishing every opportunity, in addition to being willing to put in extra efforts to get
jobs done."
No matter whether facing a favourable or unfavourable circumstance, her perspectives
have remained unchanged: "Identify", "Rectify" and "Renew". "Identify" means to set a goal.
Ngong Ping 360 is a good example, as its mission is to become a must-go world-class
attraction amongst travelers. In order to achieve this, the project team has to review its
performance on a continuous basis, leverage its strength and make improvements in the
process. "Rectify" means to make improvements through analyzing and revising strategies.
"Renew" means to make progress in an innovative way. For example, Ngong Ping 360
has been working hard to make breakthroughs, such as introducing Crystal Cabins and
adding new features to Ngong Ping Village.

A retail brand's stellar success is only made possible with strong teamwork among its
staff force. Thanks to its concerted staff efforts, AMOREPACIFIC Hong Kong has ridden
wave of popularity of Korean cosmetics, and introduced into Hong Kong market South
Korea-based LANEIGE and Sulwhasoo cosmetics and skincare products. Ms. Fion
Ipp pointed out that the beauty business has seen ups and downs in its 13 years of
development in Hong Kong. Also, the retailer and its staff have made joint efforts and
overcome obstacles when the business faced difficulties. "Our operation was threatened
by SARS outbreak soon after it commenced, and there was widespread panic across the
community. The management then introduced a commission-included pay system so that
our sales staff needed not worry about their take-home pay. Likewise, during the global
financial crisis in 2008, our staff made concerted efforts and came up with new measures
for the management to save operation costs."
She said that the business's cohesiveness derives from its corporate mission - "Beautify the
World". In addition to beautifying customers, the team also cares about them, its own
teammates and the needy in society. Its staff members, be they working on the frontline
or playing a supporting role, will regularly serve as volunteers on working days. "We
take good care of our employees and bear their interests in our mind, which has in turn
brought about exceptional results." She also shared with the participants the thematic
song of AMOREPACIFIC entitled "Beautify the World".

每次遇困難公司與員工皆齊心共渡時艱。
「當年公司開業不久便遇上沙士危機,人
心惶惶,當時公司推出包佣制度,讓員工
不用擔心生計。到

策群力主動為公司出謀獻策,節省營運成
本。」
她說公司團結凝聚的力量源自「送世界多
一分美」這企業使命,員工不單為顧客
創造美麗,更以愛心關懷身邊人,包括
顧客、同事及社會有需要的人,無論前
線或後勤員工,皆定期在上班日子當義
工。「企業好好照顧員工,凡事為對方
著想,果效非凡。」她更跟與會者分享
AMOREPACIFIC
的主題曲,歌名正是《送世
界多一分美》。
