It is my pleasure to congratulate the Hong Kong Retail
Management Association for its hard work and achievements
in the past 33 years, helping the retail industry to ride through
many challenges in the past three decades.
2016 has also been a challenging year for the retail industry,
with a slowdown in the economy, tourist numbers falling, and
an overall difficult retail market. Every stakeholder needs to
push hard to help the industry amidst these challenges again.
Members should upkeep their high quality of service. The
Government must also encourage large scale and special
events to attract local spending, as well as tourists from
neighbouring countries.
I look forward to working closely with the Association and the
Retail Industry. And I hereby also wish the Association and its
Members a fruitful and rewarding 2017!
Hong Kong is a premier travel destination full of attractions,
excitement and diversity. To enhance Hong Kong’s tourism
appeal and competiveness, the Government will continue to
spare no efforts to support the trades through rebranding Hong
Kong’s tourism image, promoting quality and honest tours,
scaling up major events, and promoting our natural scenery
as well as unique history and culture in particular in view of
the changing mix and spending pattern of visitors to Hong
Kong. While business conditions and market sentiments may
fluctuate, I am confident that with the concerted efforts of the
Government as well as the tourism and retail trades, we can
overcome challenges ahead and scale new heights. We aim
to attract more high spending and overnight visitors to Hong
Kong. I look forward to strengthening our close partnership
with the Association in fostering a quality service culture for the
long term benefit of the tourism and retail trades.
On the 33
rd
Anniversary of the Association, I wish the
Association and its members a most fruitful year ahead.
