Ms. Angel Young advised local retailers to work out their long-
term blueprints to grasp business opportunities, because there
are immense online shopping opportunities in China. Nielsen's
surveys have shown that 98% of interviewees in China said they had shopped online. This
figure was higher than 89% shown elsewhere in the world. Likewise, the percentage
of Mainland consumers who had shopped fashion, electronic products and cosmetic
products in the past six months was far higher than that of consumers globally.
Ms. Young suggested retailers combining the advantages of both online and offline channels in
order to create synergies. She said customers have different online preferences. For example,
customers generally focus more on product information when shopping fashion; and they
will pay more attention to other users' comments when shopping cosmetic products. This
has indicated that we have ushered in an era of MeCommerce. It is necessary for retailers
to customize promotional strategies, and provide the most appropriate and personalized
information to meet different customer preferences and demands.
