Mr. Frankie Ho said that in order to stand out from industry
peers in a connected world, it is essential for retailers to
watch closely the mobile market trend. This is because online
shopping using smart phones is growing rapidly, while varieties of apps are flourishing.
Retailers should be well aware of the distribution of consumers before mapping out
their strategies. For example, 58.8% of smart phone users in the Mainland are living in
the eastern and southern China, and that they are mostly young people and are male.
Mr. Ho said that since Mainland travelers mostly start searching travel information
online some 20 days before their departure, retailers may customize their advertising
solutions on related web platforms, and apply "location-based services" to target a
particular customer base. As long as these inbound Mainland travelers have arrived at
certain shopping malls or districts in Hong Kong, retailers can distribute their product
information and discount offers to their handsets to attract the travelers.
