Empowering SME retailers
Since 2010, the Association has been providing a series of
free services to SME retailers with funding from the SME
Development Fund of the Trade and Industry Department.
Our 5
th
SME Development Programme that launched in
September 2015 will be completed in December 2016. With
the theme “Customer Journey Mapping”, we organized 10
workshops and 28 follow-up consultation sessions for around
150 SME retailers. Apart from classroom training, we also
organized sharing seminars, company visits, a recognition
scheme and a guide book sharing practical advice on customer
service.
So much has been completed during this reporting year. Before
I conclude my report, I would like to offer my heartiest thank you
to members for your support. Without it, we could not have
made all the achievements possible.
I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to the Board
of Directors, our three Vice Chairmen, Mr. Henry Yip, Ms. Malina
Ngai and Mr. Winston Chow, as well as fellow members of
the Executive Committee for their wholehearted support and
enormous contribution to the work of the Association.
I am also very grateful to the hard work of members of various
committees, sub-committees, taskforces and working groups,
which made the Association’s initiatives and projects possible.
Last but not the least, I wish to extend my most sincere
appreciation to our Executive Director, Ms. Ruth Yu, and her
dedicated team at the Executive Office.
I am confident that the Association will continue its contribution
to Hong Kong in the years to come.

助中小企零售商精益求精
自2010年以來,協會一直透過工業貿易署的
「中小企業發展支援基金」的撥款資助,為中
小企零售商提供多項免費服務。
協會自2015年9月起展開的第五期「零售中小
企發展支援計劃」,將於2016年12月圓滿結
束。協會以「顧客體驗旅程」為主題,為大約
150個中小企零售商舉辦10個工作坊及28個為
參加公司跟進服務的顧問服務。除了課堂培訓
外,協會亦舉辦分享研討會、公司考察、嘉許
計劃,以及出版《零售攻略》,務求與同業分
享提供優質客戶服務的錦囊妙法。
本報告年內,協會卓有建樹。在總結之前,我
謹此衷心感謝全體會員的支持。協會成績斐
然,實有賴您們的鼎力支持。
我亦衷心感謝董事會成員、三位副主席葉焯德
先生、倪文玲女士及周允成先生,以及執委會
成員全心全力的支持,貢獻良多。
我亦謹此感謝各委員會、小組委員會、專責小
組及工作小組成員的努力,使協會的活動及計
劃得以順利進行。
最後,我謹此對執行總監余麗姚女士及其同事

Sailing Through the Changing Retail
Landscape
Since 2014, the growing global economic uncertainties,
slowdown of China economy, and the conspicuous drop in both
number and spending of Mainland visitors have put a brake on
Hong Kong robust retail growth dated back to the introduction
of the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) in 2003.
In recent times, there has been a strong correlation between
the drop in Hong Kong retail sales and the shrinkage in visitor
arrivals from the Mainland. Since the start of 2016, however,
due to the combined effect of the decline in per capita spending
of visitors and the weak local consumer sentiment, the decline
in retail sales was more pronounced than the drop in visitor
arrivals. All these factors have negatively impacted Hong Kong
retail performance in 2016.
For the first nine months of 2016, Hong Kong’s overall visitor
arrivals dipped by 6.1%, with Mainland visitors dropped even
more by near 8.7%; while the retail sales value registered a drop
by 9.6% over the same period when compared to 2015 figures.
Amongst all retail categories, specific sectors such as jewellery,
watches and clocks, and electronic goods suffered more drastic
decline of over 20%.
Many retailers foresee the current situation will continue and
regard this phenomenon as the “new normal” of Hong Kong
retail market. The challenge is how to deal with the sudden
sharp drop in sales and the yet continual rising overheads,
particularly rentals. Among traditional practices of cost controls
and channel consolidation, the Association has consistently
reminded retailers of the need to embrace this paradigm shift
with an open attitude, and readiness for change.
迎接零售業新常態
於2003年推行的「個人遊」計劃,帶動本港零
售業強勁增長;但自2014年起,環球經濟陰霾
滿佈,中國經濟放緩,內地訪港旅客人數及消
費開支驟跌,窒礙了本港零售業的增長。
近年,香港零售業銷售額的跌幅,一直與內地
訪港旅客人數的跌幅息息相關。但自2016年年
初起,隨著旅客的人均消費開支下降,加上本
港消費意慾疲弱,零售業銷售額的跌幅明顯甚
於旅客人數的跌幅。上述因素已對香港零售業
2016年的表現造成負面的影響。
於2016年首九個月,香港整體訪港旅客人數下
跌6.1%,內地旅客人數更下跌近8.7%,而零
售業銷貨價值較2015年同期下跌9.6%。在所
有零售商類別中,珠寶首飾、鐘錶及電子產品
等類別的銷貨價值更大幅下滑逾20%。
很多零售商預測目前的市況將會持續,並認為
這種現象是本港零售業的「新常態」。如何解
決銷售額銳減及租金等經常性開支持續高企的
問題,正是零售商必須面對的挑戰。除了傳統
的成本控制及銷售途徑整合外,協會已持續提
醒零售商需要以開明的態度迎接新常態,隨時
準備好作出應變。
