Our ongoing retail training programmes have also seen
continued strong support from members and fellow retailers.
During the year, we organised over 60 seminars and
workshops, covering the latest trends and know-how of the
retail market.
Supporting SME Retailers
Over the years, the Association has been assisting SME
members to enhance their competitiveness and expand their
business.
With funding support from the Trade and Industry Department,
our 5th SME Support Programme was completed in
December 2016, benefiting a total of 400 SME retailers
and 1,000 retail practitioners with a high satisfaction rate
of 97%. Through seminars, workshops and consultation
sessions, mystery shopper assessments and company visits,
the Programme has successfully assisted SME retailers to
streamline their customer experience through standardised
and sustainable service processes.
In the light of this success, I am very glad that a new round
of funding has now been confirmed. We will embark on
our 6th SME Support Programme, which takes the theme
of “Succeeding in New Retail Normal by Seizing E-tailing
Opportunities”, this September. A series of designated
programmes will be launched to equip SME retailers with
skills in the e-tailing business, so that they can expand their
businesses by setting up quality online shops with recognition.
Engaging Our Members
The Association continues to go from strength to strength.
Despite the challenging business environment, we have
seen a modest increase in the total number of members to
740. We have launched a two-fold membership recruitment
and retention strategy during the year, targeting senior retail
executives and prospective companies, including e-tailers.
To this end, we organised two CEO luncheons, registering
the participation from nearly 100 retailers and stakeholders.
We also organized a series of exclusive networking events for
potential members to mingle and exchange views with our
member retailers, so that they could understand better the
work and mission of the Association.
At the same time, we increased the frequency of our business
matching and networking activities to invite more Associate
members, who are mostly service providers, to share their
core business intelligence with our member companies.
