Achievements
In addition, the Association has been working closely with Legislator
for Wholesale and Retail, Mr. Peter Shiu, on regulatory issues. Our
efforts with Mr. Shiu included conveying our members’ concerns
to relevant government departments about, among others, the
need of consultation with the retail trade before launching the Hong
Kong Code of Marketing for Formula Milk and Related Products,
the proposal to prohibit commercial sales and supply of alcohol
to persons aged below 18, and the noise problems relating to the
Mong Kok pedestrian zone.
We also maintained close connection with the media throughout the
year. This helped to increase the transparency of the Association
and enhance public understanding about retailers’ operation and
challenges. We strongly believe that retailers play an important role
in ensuring the Government to formulate a balanced view in the
policy making process.
Presenting a Stronger Retail Voice in Regulatory
Development
The Association continued to serve as a sound board to the
Government on industry views from our members and to ensure a
smooth implementation of regulations, such that any operational
disruption can be minimized.
